An exciting new tutoring service is just weeks away from opening in the heart of the Kingston borough.
For over 45 years, Kip McGrath has helped hundreds of thousands of children across the globe improve their literacy and numeracy skills. First opening its doors in Australia in 1976, the tutoring organisation now has over 560 centres globally, including 260 branches in the UK, with its latest addition set to open in Kingston upon Thames in a matter of weeks.
Located on Fife Road, minutes away from Kingston's town centre, the centre will provide individual learning programmes for children aged 6-16 who are struggling to achieve their potential with their Maths and English in a typical school environment.
With groups limited to no more than five pupils, each student will receive direct support on their individualised programme, helping to resolve gaps in their foundational learning and working towards continuous progress. The programmes, the support of well-qualified tutors and regular feedback help students to improve skills, as well as develop confidence and self-esteem.
The man behind Kingston's exciting new project is local David Impey, who has over 35 years of teaching experience across the globe, including 16 years as a Head of International Schools in Dubai and India. He has three adult children who are currently living in the UK.
Born in South Africa, David taught for four years in Botswana before moving to the UK and teaching in secondary (and primary for a year) schools for a decade in London, Birmingham and Leeds. He then spent 25 years in Dubai and India, where he always continued classroom teaching as well as leadership of three large, international schools with UK-based curricula. The former Headteacher relocated with his wife to London three years ago to settle. He knew a franchise tutoring centre was an exciting next step, which he was eager to launch.
David told Nub News: "Teaching is in my blood, it's purely inherent. I remember being 10-years-old and if I was doing something at a reasonably strong level, say playing football, I would end up coaching my friends!
"It is an absolute delight teaching students who are very capable and can pick it up quickly, but the real test is when someone is having difficulties and just not 'getting it'. There is no bigger thrill than when it just 'clicks', and they understand the skill or concept.
"Kingston's Kip McGrath is a place where we want to welcome any young student who is struggling in a certain area and make it clear to them that together, learning can be fun and success is there for all, with the right support and teaching."
After over a year tutoring online, taking the time to secure suitable premises for the Kingston Kip McGrath offices and preparing the centre, David is thrilled to announce that the opening is just two weeks away.
Nub News will be able to confirm an official date in due course, but parents are able to view Kingston's Kip McGrath website here for further information on how their child could benefit from additional one-on-one support.
