Talented Kingston residents capture life during lockdown in new photography exhibit

Moving photographs taken by Kingston residents during the pandemic last year are now on display in the town centre.
The new exhibit is based at The Rose Theatre and shows photos sent in as part of the Capture Kingston: Lockdown and Out competition.
Five talented Kingston residents have been awarded for their work and the seven winning photos can be seen in the gallery above, as well as in person at the exhibit.
Capture Kingston is an annual photo competition held by Kingston History Centre and Friends of Kingston Heritage Service.
It was set up to record the history of the borough in memory of their member Les Kirkin.
This year the two organisations partnered with the Rose Theatre for a special lockdown-themed competition focusing on how residents coped with the Covid-19 pandemic, especially in its early stages.
The competition organisers said they were delighted with the quality of the entries and all will contribute to Kingston's photographic collection.
People are also invited to come and vote in-person for the Kingston's Choice award, which will go to the image that is the public's favourite.
The Rose Theatre's exhibit is open from 10am - 6pm and can be seen until October 31. No booking is needed.
Anne McCormack, Secretary of the Friends of Kingston Museum and Heritage Service, said: "Many congratulations to our deserving winners this year and thank you to everyone who took part.
"All the entries will be retained in the collections and will form an important record of an extraordinary year.
"The Friends established the competition in 2001 following the death of Les Kirkin, a member and a much respected professional local photographer, who undertook photographic work for the museum over many years.
"It is a fitting memorial to him that this annual competition was established in his name and has prospered ever since, enhancing the local history pictorial collections year by year."
