Kingston MPs Ed Davey and Sarah Olney broke the news on social media yesterday (June 2) after it was reported that cases of the virus in Kingston were rising the fastest in London.

In a Twitter post dated Wednesday June 2, Kingston and Surbiton MP Davey announced: "Kingston: important Covid news.

"Kingston's Covid rates are rising fast and are now London's highest, driven by the Delta strain.

"Urgent action will include surge testing and surge vaccination.

"Details will soon be announced on https://kingston.gov.uk"

Ms Olney, MP for Richmond Park who counts part of North Kingston in her constituency, added: "Important Covid-19 update.

"Case rates in the Kingston are now the highest in London. The Council will be carrying out surge vaccinations & testing.

"If offered, please take the vaccine and help combat the spread of this virus."

Public Health England data showed that in the week up to May 26, 108 new infections were confirmed in Kingston infection, a rate of 60.8 per 100,000 people.
