A new sweet shop selling exclusively American treats has opened in Kingston town centre.

With its vivid pink exterior and colourful sweet-lined shelves the store, called the 'American Candy Shop,' is hard to miss.

It is located on 8 Clarence Street, known to many as the former Ernest Jones.

The shop opened (25 August) and when Nub News visited it was packed with customers queuing up for their favourite US brand.

These include Reese's, Wonka bars, Nerds, Twinkies and Takis, in different varieties and flavours.

Even Campbell's American Soup makes an appearance.

Nub News caught up with two of the owners, Althaf and Harry.

Harry, who is from New Malden, said that setting up the shop is a way to help try and revive Kingston's town centre.

Over the pandemic, many stores have closed without new businesses moving in - understandable given the expensive rates.

But the duo also said they chose Kingston because of the nice people.

They aim to be inclusive with their shop, which they say is for everyone, and point out its vegan and zero-sugar sweets.
