Kingston Council reveals climate emergency action plan - here's how to have your say
Climate change is high on the agenda this week, with international leaders gathering in Glasgow to negotiate steps to avoid catastrophic global warming.
Closer to home, Kingston Council unveiled its Climate Emergency Draft Action Plan last month and is seeking feedback on its proposals to cut emissions across the borough - and become carbon neutral by 2038.
The plan, which is 35 A4 pages long in its short form, has seven key ways in which the Council is proposing to take action on climate change.
These are: Improving the efficiency of council buildings; doing the same for Kingston's homes; encouraging greener travel; reducing waste; growing a green economy; making the council sustainable and looking after the natural environment.
Councillor Stephanie Archer, the Council's lead for Environment and Sustainable Transport, said she was "really excited" to be sharing the draft plan and implored people to give their feedback on it.
"The suggested actions it contains would help the council reduce carbon emissions and create a cleaner, greener Kingston for everyone now and in the future," she said.
"However, we can't tackle climate change on our own and it's really important that we have the support of our communities, so please do take the time to tell us what you think of the plan."
The Council listed some of the ways it has already begun to tackle the climate crisis such as extending the borough's walking and cycling infrastructure, developing a district heating proposal with Thames Water and funding a programme to move all of Kingston's street lights to LED by 2023.
A quick survey on the climate action plans with 4 main questions is now open and can be accessed here.
