Overview:

We are seeking a talented and ambitious Junior Sous Chef to join our dynamic culinary team at our esteemed French restaurant in Surbiton, London. The ideal candidate will have a passion for French cuisine, excellent culinary skills, and a desire to learn and grow within a fast-paced kitchen environment. This role presents an exciting opportunity to work alongside experienced chefs and contribute to the creation of memorable dining experiences for our guests.

Responsibilities:

  1. Culinary Excellence:

    • Assist the Head Chef and Sous Chef in the preparation and presentation of high-quality French dishes, ensuring adherence to recipes and standards.
    • Execute cooking techniques with precision and consistency, showcasing creativity and attention to detail.
    • Contribute innovative ideas to menu development, incorporating seasonal ingredients and authentic French flavors.
  2. Kitchen Operations:

    • Coordinate and supervise kitchen activities in the absence of senior chefs, ensuring smooth and efficient operations.
    • Monitor food inventory levels, assist with ordering supplies, and minimize food wastage through proper storage and utilization techniques.
    • Maintain cleanliness and hygiene standards in accordance with health and safety regulations.
  3. Team Collaboration:

    • Collaborate closely with fellow chefs and kitchen staff to ensure seamless teamwork and communication.
    • Provide guidance and support to commis chefs and kitchen assistants, fostering their growth and development.
    • Lead by example, demonstrating professionalism, discipline, and a positive attitude in the kitchen.
  4. Quality Control:

    • Conduct regular inspections of food items to ensure freshness, quality, and presentation standards.
    • Taste and adjust seasoning of dishes as necessary to achieve optimal flavor profiles.
    • Uphold consistency in portion sizes and plating techniques to meet guest expectations.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience as a Chef de Partie or similar role in a reputable restaurant or hotel, preferably with exposure to French cuisine.
  • Culinary qualifications from a recognized culinary school or apprenticeship program.
  • Strong culinary skills and knowledge of French cooking techniques and ingredients.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced kitchen environment, multitasking and prioritizing tasks.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities, with a positive and proactive attitude.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.
