Willow Weaving Workshop
United Response, Field Lane, Teddington TW11 9BP
Arts & Crafts
UNTIL Sunday 18th September
Why not learn a new skill in 2022? Come along to our Sunday crafting session in the studio at United Response in Teddington and learn how to make a Catalan platter (or even two!). Woven from naturally coloured willow from the Somerset Levels, these platters are often used to serve fruit or bread, but also make a very effective and attractive pot stand.
During the class, led by experienced willow weaver Dawn Ohlson, you will learn the basics of handling willow, making the foundation wreath and then you'll use your own choice of willows to weave the platter.
This workshop is suitable for the absolute beginner, though a little manual dexterity and patience may be required at times! The platter is also a great project for participants who have worked with willow before. You should make at least one platter during the class, maybe even two!
All tools and willow will be provided, but do bring a pair of sharp secateurs if you have them and wear old trousers!
There'll be lots of tea, coffee and homemade cake and we'll also take a short break for lunch, so you can either bring along a packed lunch to eat in the studio or if you prefer, there are lots of cafes and places to buy food nearby.
"Great workshop. Dawn was extremely patient and knowledgeable"
