Wild Parlour:An artists philosophy collective, presents Alternative Airport

RuptureXIBIT is delighted to announce their latest exhibition titled Alternative Airport. Featuring the work of twenty artists who are recent graduates and current students of the Royal College of Art, the show is a mix of sculpture, painting, performance, and installation.

An Alternative Airport is a plan B of a destination for landing an aeroplane in an emergency. A standard in aviation, Alternative Airports are prethought solutions aiming to save crucial time in decision-making when time becomes scarce. Unlike commercial flights, landing at plan B is much more common in gliding. We may need to adapt when we fly without an engine. The variables are multiple; the resources are in short supply.

There's something poetic about rescuing a glider in a field of basil somewhere in the middle of Cambridgeshire. The white aerodynamic shape leaves a mark where the landing gear touches the soil, releasing a herbal smell of smashed leaves. The surrounding stone walls make you wonder, how did that thing end up there? The aircraft activates the context acquiring an aura of something that shouldn't be touched, a place in memory.
