KINGSTON Council has announced plans for a potential redevelopment of the Guildhall Complex in the town centre to accommodate affordable housing and community facilities.

The council has named the programme Transform Kingston and has identified two sites - the sites of the 1970s office buildings on the Guildhall Complex and the Cattle Market Car Park - to become part of the heritage-led regeneration programme.

KINGSTON borough will get two brand-new primary school buildings next year as the Council seeks to meet a forecast rise in demand for school places.

Burlington junior school, a Council-run school in New Malden, will gain a new school block allowing it to expand from 4-forms per year to 5-forms - an increase in capacity from 480 to 600 pupils.

A road near Richmond Park is now closed so that toads can 'hop' to the other side

A short and scenic, tree-lined stretch of road on the perimeter of Richmond Park has closed for three weeks to allow breeding toads to begin their annual 'pilgrimage' to the opposite side of the road.

More than ten bright red ROAD CLOSED signs, barriers and bright yellow warning signs blocked off the road this morning, bamboozling motorists who were caught by surprise at the closure and unaware of the unusual reason.

AN EIGHT-YEAR-OLD boy who walked the length of every street in Kingston borough in the first year of covid-19 lockdowns has been recognised for his "amazing achievement" by Kingston's Mayor.

Matty Dixon, now aged 9, completed his tour of the borough on Christmas Eve 2020 and has since taken on nearby areas Long Ditton and Hinchley Wood.
