Spike Brits joined Sutton on a season-long loan deal from Manchester City in July 2026.

Hailing from Kingston-upon-Thames, Brits spent ten years in the youth ranks at AFC Wimbledon, a club he initially joined at the age of six, and worked his way up the Academy setup to receive call-ups to first team training while still with the Under-18s, despite only being 16-years old at the time.

His performances began to attract interest from Premier League clubs including front runners Manchester City, Brighton & Hove Albion and Brentford, but it was Pep Guardiola's side that secured Brits' signature in June 2023, making the switch to the Etihad Stadium for a club record fee received for an academy player.

The 19-year-old subsequently spent his debut campaign in sky blue with the Under-18s, making eight appearances in between the sticks, before moving up to the club's Elite Development Squad ahead of the 2024/25 season, giving him the opportunity to compete in the Premier League 2.

After a difficult spell in the season saw him sidelined through injury, Brits returned to full fitness and played a key role as City went on to win the 2024/25 PL2 title, making 19 appearances across the Under-18 Premier League North, PL2 and UEFA Youth League, keeping seven clean sheets.

Brits continued to build up experience with the EDS in his 19 appearances in 2025/26, including one of his most impressive performances which brought a penalty save to secure a clean sheet in City's thrilling 4-0 win over Real Madrid in the UEFA Youth League.

Internationally, the shot stopper has also represented England at Under-16, Under-17 and Under-18 level.

He kept seven clean sheets from his first eight caps for the former and played as the Young Lions won the Mondial Montaigu Tournament, defeating Japan Under-16s in the final.

Brits later made his England Under-17 debut during a 3–2 defeat to Portugal at the Pinatar Arena and led to him being included in the squad for the 2024 UEFA European Under-17 Championship; his two appearances during the tournament both coming in the group stage, with Brits keeping a clean sheet in their opening game against France, a year before he debut for the Under-18s during a 1–1 draw with Switzerland at the Lafarge Foot Avenir.
