The disruptions were caused by an incident that occurred between Raynes Park and Surbiton yesterday.

South Western Railway announced today that they received reports of immediate concern for an individual in the New Malden area, which led police to carry out a major search operation.

This meant that all services at London Waterloo were disrupted.

All lines were reopened at 9.30pm.

The transport service has apologised for the inconvenience and discomfort this may have caused.

British Transport Police said: "We were called to an area close to New Malden station at around 2.30pm on Monday 20 August, following reports of a trespasser on the tracks.

" Officers attended and conducted a full search of the line but the person was not located."
