Where's all the traffic from? Road works and closures taking place in Kingston borough

What's going on with the traffic in Kingston? Here's a round-up of the road work updates which is due to take place this week (29 January- 4 February).

A3, Malden Way (TLRN) / Malden Road KT3

  • Lanes 1 and 2 (of 3) westbound, plus the westbound unslip from Malden Junction, remains closed due to emergency gas works to repair a leaking gas main.
  • TFL are reviewing traffic signal timings in the wider area to mitigate delays to bus services and other road users.
  • Bus operators are using service control measures to ensure as regular a service as possible. We will continue to liaise with TFL for further updates.
  • (These works are being managed by TFL).

Horsefair Tunnel, Kingston

  • Westbound closure - Monday 29th January until Friday 23rd February. Estimated 20 working days from 8pm to 6am. Open on weekends.
  • Eastbound Closure - Monday 26th February until Friday 22nd March. Estimated 20 working days from 8pm to 6am. Open on weekends.
  • Full Closure - Monday 25th March until Thursday 28th March. Estimated 4 working days from 8pm to 6am.
  • Diversion signs will be in place.

Tolworth Roundabout TFL Scheme, Tolworth

  • A3 at the junction with A240.
  • Works until Spring 2024.
  • Work is being undertaken by TFL to improve pedestrian, vehicular and cycling journey times. However due to the complexity of the works, various stages of traffic management will need to be utilised throughout the project. We expect this to cause significant impact on traffic flows from time to time.
  • Main roads that are likely to be impacted; Kingston Road, Ewell Road and Surbiton Hill Road (A240). A3. Kingsdowne Road (A3210). Upper Brighton Road and Hook Road (A243). Malden Road (A2043).-
  • We expect disruption to impact the wider area from time to time.
  • This work forms part of our programme to build a safer, more reliable road network across London. Visit tfl.gov.uk/roads for more information.

Ewell Road Culvert, Tolworth

  • Ellerton Road will be closed in both directions at its junction with Ditton Road from 28th November 2023 to March 2024.
  • Traffic wishing to access Ellerton Road will be diverted via Ditton Road, Cotterill Road and Dennan Road in both directions and access to the Co-operative Store will be unaffected.
  • The works are being undertaken by the Royal Borough of Kingston to carry out essential repairs to the Ewell Road culvert.

Ewell Road, Surbiton

  • Essential gas utility works undertaken by SGN.
  • Potential disruption due to the carriageway incursion of the works.
  • Works are scheduled to end on the 31st January 2024.

Hook Road, Surbiton

  • 24 hour two-way signals outside 132.
  • 01 to 30 January 2024.
  • Urgent works by SGN.

Kingston Road, New Malden

  • 24 hour multi-way signals outside The Fairview development.
  • 15 January to 9 February 2024.
  • Works by RBK.
  • Footway closed. A pedestrian walkway will be provided.

Highfield Road, Tolworth

  • Two-way signals 08:00 - 18:00 at the side of 153 Tolworth Rise North.
  • 02 February 2024.
  • Works by TFL.
  • Footway closed. An alternative route for pedestrians will be provided.

Lady Booth Road, Kingston

  • Road closure at the junction with Eden Street.
  • 24 January to 21 February 2024.
  • Works by UK Power Networks.
  • Footway closed. An alternative route for pedestrians will be provided.

Lingfield Avenue, Kingston

  • 24 hour two way signals outside 50.
  • 29 January to 02 February 2024.
  • Works by Thames Water.
  • Footway closed. A pedestrian walkway will be provided.

Horsefair, Kingston

  • Road closure 20:00 - 05:00 from Kingston Bridge to Vicarage Road.
  • 29 January to 28 March 2024.
  • Works by RBK.
  • Footway closed. An alternative route for pedestrians will be provided.

Eden Street, Kingston

  • Eden Street open for southbound traffic only.
  • Northbound traffic will be diverted via Wheatfield Way. Bus diversions will be in place with temporary bus stops installed. Visit the TFL website for more information.
  • 29 January to 19 February 2024. Works will take place overnight between 20:00 and 06:00.
  • Essential UKPN connectivity works
  • Access to Brook Street, Ashdown Road and Lady Booth Road will be provided.

Fairmead, Tolworth

  • Two-way signals 08:00 - 18:00 outside 41 to 43.
  • 01 February 2024.
  • Works by TFL.
  • Footway closed. An alternative route for pedestrians will be provided.

Elm Road, New Malden

  • 24 hour road closure at the level crossing.
  • 03 to 05 February 2024.
  • Works by Network Rail.
  • Footway closed. A pedestrian walkway will be provided.

Westbury Road, New Malden

  • Road closure 08:00 - 17:00 at the junction with Kingston Road.
  • 08 to 05 February 2024.
  • Works by Vodafone.
  • Footway closed. An alternative route for pedestrians will be provided.

Sycamore Grove, New Malden

  • 24 hour two-way signals outside 12.
  • 08 to 16 February 2024.
  • Works by RBK.
  • Footway closed. An alternative route for pedestrians will be provided.
