Surbiton's Ski Sunday & King's Soup Celebration

Crowds are expected to line part of St Mark's Hill, Surbiton, this Sunday (16th), to cheer on local thrill-seekers as they attempt to "ski" along part of Central Parade with blocks of ice strapped to their feet.

This unique spectacle is part of the town's annual Ski Sunday event which makes its long-awaited return after a break of more than five years.

The fun and free competition, which runs from 11am to 1pm, is organised by The Community Brain, a local not-for-profit based at Tolworth Railway Station, that uses the widest range of the arts, local history, social enterprise and community-led regeneration to give communities a voice and a renewed sense of importance and pride.

If you fancy giving the slops a shot, Surbiton Ski Sunday is a free event that's open to everyone and you can sign up on the day. Some safety equipment will be provided, but if you have your own, please bring it with you – along with a costume of your choice!

Later into Sunday afternoon, there's a change of pace as the focus moves to Surbiton's Claremont Gardens, near Waitrose, for The King's Soup celebration (nothing to do with King Charles III, for those wondering).

Inspired by local folklore about a selfish king who changes his bad ways after tasting a soup made by a collective of villagers, this open event celebrates togetherness and community.

Come along between 1.30pm and 4.30pm to help make a soup "fit for a king". Simply, bring a leek and potato to contribute, if you can, and a vessel to enjoy your soup from.

Sue Barker at the Rose Theatre

Tennis and broadcasting legend Sue Barker will grace Kingston's Rose Theatre this Sunday as she shares the remarkable story of her life and career.

The evening will celebrate the publication of her all in, once-only autobiography, Calling the Shots, which audience members will receive as part of their ticket package.

From her former tennis career as Britain's No 1 and world No 3, to her glittering four decades on camera as an award-winning broadcaster, it promises to be a special night at the Rose.

There will be opportunities for members of the audience to ask Sue their own questions during a Q & A segment with the running time expected to be between 75 – 90 minutes with no interval.
