Kingston not-for-profits and community groups are able to benefit from new funding that has been made available by Veolia's 2023 Sustainability Fund.

The borough of Kingston is part of the South London Waste Partnership (SLWP) which also includes Croydon, Merton and Sutton and is supplied by Veolia.

The bin collection company has increased last year's available funding from £3,000 to £5,000 for environmentally-led projects that organisations in any of the SLWP boroughs are able to apply for.

Last year saw the Sustainability Fund support 10 grassroots projects across the partnership including Kingston charity, The Community Brain, which used the funding plant a strawberry wall at Tolworth Station to enhance biodiversity.

Applications are now open until 29 September 2023 with organisations able to apply for funding here. Successful projects from 2022 including one or more of the below:

  • Enhancing biodiversity
  • Promoting sustainable waste behaviours (reduce, reuse and/or recycle)
  • Protecting or preserving resources and the environment
  • Its use of recycled, reused or reclaimed materials

Managing Director at Veolia, Pascal Hauret, said: "Funding 10 local projects through the Sustainability Fund was one of the South London Waste Partnership's (SLWP) great successes of 2022 and we're so thrilled to continue its important work in 2023.

"As we work towards ecological transformation in collaboration with the SLWP boroughs of Croydon, Kingston, Merton and Sutton, we can't wait to see the inspiring and innovative ideas of our applicants."
