A new Ukrainian 'Supplementary' school is opening in the Royal Borough of Kingston for children who have had to leave their homes and education due to the conflict in the country.

The St Mary's Ukrainian Supplementary School in New Malden will be available on Sundays during term time, and will welcome fifty Ukrainian pupils aged 5 to 16 who live in the borough.

Councillor Afy Afilaka, Portfolio Holder for Culture, Heritage and Governance said: "Over the last year and a half, Kingston has welcomed Ukrainians with open arms, and we have supported over 170 children to settle into local schools.

"We pride ourselves on being a welcoming and inclusive borough, so we are delighted that we can provide these children with a Ukrainian education whilst they are living in Kingston."

Pupils are offered lessons in Ukrainian language, history and geography to develop their knowledge and understanding of Ukraine whilst being able to enjoy sports, cooking and other fun activities to support their transition into their new cultural environment in the UK.
