Cappadocia, a popular Turkish restaurant in Kingston, will pledge its Thursday earnings (8 February) towards social organisations providing aid in the affected areas.

A restaurant in Kingston is set to donate tomorrow's earnings (Thursday) towards social organisations providing aid in Turkey after the country was struck by a devastating earthquake in the early hours of Monday morning.

More than 11,000 people have been killed and thousands injured by the huge earthquake that struck south-eastern Turkey near the Syrian border.

The earthquake, which hit near the town of Gaziantep, was closely followed by numerous aftershocks - including one quake which was almost as large as the first.

Cappadocia, a popular Turkish restaurant in Kingston that has been open for over 20 years, has been left distraught by the news with many of its staff and regulars affected by Monday's events.

The eatery took to social media on Tuesday to announce earnings made on Thursday 9 February would be donated directly to charitable causes working in the affected areas.

In a statement the restaurant wrote: "We are shocked and saddened by the devastating earthquakes that have happened in our beautiful country, Turkey.

"Our condolences go to those who have lost family and friends & prayers to those who are injured, 10 cities have been destroyed with thousands of people dead and many still missing.

"Many have lost everything and are now facing the brutal winter cold and snow.

"In this time of extraordinary need, Cappadocia Restaurant will be donating all of its earnings from the whole day of Thursday 9th February 2023 to social organisations in Turkey who are providing aid and relief to the affected areas.

"We ask that you join us on Thursday 9th and support us in raising funds for those impacted. Every penny you spend will help earthquake victims in need."

To book reservations, guests are encouraged to visit the Cappadocia website or by calling on 020 8549 6228.

For those unable to attend tomorrow's cause at the Kingston eatery, a Just Giving page has been set up by he Turkey Mozaik Foundation which has already reached over £450,000 in donations. The page can be accessed here.

Local businesses including Kingston Food Centre, The Bistro and Ham Food Centre have teamed up with the Cappadocia Restaurant to support them in their efforts.
