Thousands of locals flocked to Hollyfield Road in Surbiton yesterday (Sunday, 9 November) for Remembrance Sunday commemorations organized by the Royal British Legion's (RBL) Surbiton branch.

From 10am on Sunday, guests were invited to enjoy tea and coffee in the branch's HQ as members of the parade geared up for the event.

At 10.30am, after a musical introduction from the Royal British Legion Marching Band (who joined the parade), the parade, led by RBL Surbiton's branch manager Chris Nicholls, commenced its march down Hollyfield Road.

The parade, which featured many groups from army and navy cadets to young scouts, then headed down Ewell Road before stopping at the Surbiton War Memorial.

Along the way, residents of Ewell Road left their houses to take a look at the parade as did workers from the various cafes and pubs located along the road and members of Surbiton Fire Station. Moreover, members of RBL Surbiton took station along the parade route to prevent vehicles from entering and to hand out poppies to those that did not have one.

Once at the War Memorial, Reverend Vindra Maraj-Ogden led a lovely service, which was watched by thousands crowding outside the memorial.

Wreaths were laid at the memorial and following the service, the parade made its way back to RBL Surbiton's HQ on Hollyfield Road to enjoy drinks and snacks.

The Deputy Mayor of Kingston, Councillor Sue Ansarri, was also in attendance.
