Last night, Thursday 12 December, 120 people and one dog took the streets of Kingston dressed in Santa's costumes as part of Kingston's first ever Santa pub run, organised by The Pub Run Club.

Despite the rain, the participants, walked, jogged, and ran from the Grove Pub in Surbiton to Kingston town centre along the river and back along to festive tunes after being waved off by our Mayor, Liz Green, and being led in a warmup by Chris' daughter.

The 5k run was organised to raise money for the Kingston Hospital Charity, a charity close to the organisers' and many of the runners' hearts.

To accommodate the run for all abilities, The Pub Run Club's members Chris and Carl created three groups for the run, which included the fast group (for the faster runners), a group for those who preferred to jog at a moderate pace, and a group for those who preferred to walk.

Members of The Pub Run Club ran with two party bag speakers playing all the best Christmas songs and flashing lights.

As the run/walk took place, members of the public cheered the participants on and sang along to 'Fairytale of New York' and 'All I want for Christmas is You'.

Participants even went through Marks & Spencer in Kingston town centre, going up the escalator and back down.

Once the participants returned to The Grove following the run, they all gathered round in the pub's beer garden, which was conveniently covered from the rain, to enjoy a drink and socialise.

Speaking about why he and his son took part in the event, one participant told Kingston Nub: "I'm running because I know Carl and he's super passionate about running and it's for a great cause and it's a great way to get out and socialise while also exercising."

Another participant, who is pregnant and joined the walking group, said: "We are to support Kingston Hospital and our friends who run the club.

"The guys have worked so hard in organising this and we're excited to take part."

Build Your Dreams (BYD) sponsored the event.

The Pub Run Club's Chris said: "We're really grateful for the massive turnout we've had tonight to help support the hospital, Macmillan, and even the pubs.

"For next year, we really want to build on this and make it a bigger community event and we really want to promote our local running events which are free and for everyone of all abilities.

"Having three groups to get people out and about running really works about.

"There's been really great energy tonight."

The Pub Run Club hosts free, steady 5k runs in Kingston every Thursday.
