The Community Brain's (TCB) annual Seething Freshwater Sardine Festival is returning to Surbiton this Sunday (4 May).

The festival will run from 12pm – 5pm on Claremont Road in Surbiton.

It celebrates the ancient tradition of sardine fishing in the River Thames in Surbiton.

TCB says: "Since sardines were once again introduced to the river in 2005, local people have celebrated the capture of this magical food with a festival."

There will be bands and entertainment at the festival all day, as well as fresh food and drink stalls, arts and crafts, and a procession which will take attendees to the river to watch the haul of the sardines, "which are of course taken to the famous Sardine BBQ".

The procession from Claremont Gardens will start at 2pm, and this will be followed by the "famous" sardine catch at Queen's Promenade by Raven's Ait island at 2.30pm.
