Temporary classrooms approved for local school
By James Smith 11th Feb 2026
Council planners have given the green light for a temporary classroom block at a local school.
Kingston Council has approved a planning application for Tolworth Girls School And Sixth Form.
Permission has been granted for the Tala Close school to have a two-storey temporary building which includes eight classrooms, a staff room and a social office.
To be built on a piece of playground, the building "will accommodate pupils during the refurbishment and repairs of an adjacent building".
Granting planning permission, a council report said: "Overall, it is considered that a temporary permission would be appropriate in this instance to allow for the operation of the school to continue in its current capacity while the key refurbishment of existing buildings take place.
"As a permanent solution, the proposed development would not be appropriate however, given the temporary nature of the development the proposal is considered to be acceptable."
