Two teenage boys were arrested yesterday, Friday 29 November, after police officers were taken to hospital due to being exposed to a "corrosive substance" at Surbiton station.

Just before 4.30pm, British Transport Police officers were at Surbiton station when they spotted two teenagers, aged 14 and 16, acting suspiciously.

As the officers tried to speak to them, they were exposed to a substance believed to be alkaline.

Two of the officers were taken to hospital, but their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening or life changing.

Seven other officers, including two from the Metropolitan Police, were checked by paramedics.

The boys were arrested on suspicion of carrying a corrosive substance and conspiracy to commit GBH (grievous bodily harm).

The 16-year-old was taken to hospital as a precaution.

Surbiton Station was then closed by the London Fire Brigade.

However, it reopened later in the evening after being made safe.

Police announced yesterday that they are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident, but the investigation is ongoing.
