A south west London commuter line was victim of "major disruption" at rush hour this morning (20 September) due to a swan on the line.

The swan settled on the tracks tuning between Kingston and Hampton Wick, with South Western Railway (SWR) warning of disruption and delays.

In a message to passengers at 7:28am, SWR wrote: "Due to animals on the railway between Kingston and Hampton Wick the line towards Shepperton is blocked.

"Train services running through these stations may be delayed or revised. Disruption is expected until 09:30."

Almost two hours-worth of delays were caused as trains had to run slower due to the swan.

By 9:23am, SWR announced trains were running normally and there should be no more delays.
