A local boxing club, Surbiton Boxfit, is seeking new members.

The club runs classes at Emmanuel Church in Tolworth on Tuesdays from 5.45pm – 6.30pm,  and at Alcheme in Surbiton on Saturdays from 11am – 12pm.

The classes are open to anyone over the age of 18.

Surbiton Boxfit's founder Matthew Mellows, who teaches the classes, told Kingston Nub News: "We have a very diverse group of people who train, ranging from 25 - 60, there is no set age range."

Speaking about why started the club, Mellows said: "I started Martials arts quite late on in life, at 25, and trained in all kinds of places.

"I then spent a month in Thailand where I trained kickboxing and then took up boxing during Covid. I loved it so much, I wanted to start my own club, and that's why I started Surbiton Boxfit."

Mellows' classes cost currently cost £10 but will increase to £12.50 in the new tax year.

Mellows, who has lived in Surbiton for a year, said: "About three months before starting the club, I tried to find the right gym for me, but I felt there was not much in the community that suited what I wanted.

"So, I decided to try and ask people in local groups if they just wanted to train with me at the park, just simply holding pads, and doing some High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT)-based workouts and train them in the way I was taught.

"This then manifested into Surbiton Boxfit, which is now a fast-growing Boxfit club!"
