MP for Kingston and Surbiton, Ed Davey, has called on the Prime Minister to recall Parliament to discuss plans to defend Ukraine following the emergency European summit held in Paris yesterday, Monday 17 February.

The Liberal Democrats leader said it was crucial to ensure that the Government's plans in this "era defining moment" can be properly scrutinised (and voted on) by Parliament, and that the situation was urgent given the talks between the US and Russia starting today, Tuesday 18 February.

Parliament is currently in recess, meaning neither the Commons nor the Lords will sit until 24 February.

Ed Davey  said: "This is an era-defining moment for global security with events that will impact us for decades taking place over days.

"We must act immediately to save Ukraine from a shoddy deal cooked up by Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin.

"It is vital that Parliament has a chance to debate and scrutinise the government's plans to support Ukraine.

"Strong cross-party support from across the House will strengthen the Prime Minister's hand and allow the UK to step up and lead in Europe at this critical moment."

Speaking about Trump more generally, Ed Davey MP told Nub News: "While the Conservatives and Reform cheer on Donald Trump's damaging agenda, we must call out his behaviour and stand up for the UK's interests.

"Now is the time for the Government to show strength against Trump's threats to our economy and national security."
