A river race with more than 2,500 competitors passed through Kingston last weekend.

The Great River Race travels through London from Millwall to Richmond, and covers the distance of a marathon.

It was started in 1988 with 61 rowing enthusiasts, but now has around 300 crews taking part.

The race attracts competitors from the USA, Australia and a number of European countries, having become one of the most prestigious events of its kind.

There are 37 trophies awarded to competitors, with categories for specific types of boat, gender makeup of the team, age of team, and more.

Many competitors also wear quirky costumes, with one team at the event being dressed as vikings.

You can learn more about the race here.
