Rail passengers travelling through Kingston and across the South Western Railway network are facing delays and cancellations this afternoon after a fault affecting communication systems between trains and signallers.

South Western Railway said issues between London Waterloo and Reading caused disruption across its entire network earlier today (Tuesday, 19 May).

Although all lines have now reopened and the fault has been fixed, passengers are still being warned of delays, cancellations and short-notice service alterations while timetables recover.

The disruption is expected to continue until around 6pm.

The issue is likely to affect commuters and residents travelling through stations including Kingston railway station, with services across the wider network seeing knock-on delays.

South Western Railway said: "We were made aware of an issue that is affecting communications between trains and signallers between Reading and London Waterloo. This has now been fixed."

The operator added that despite the fault being resolved, it will take time for services to return to normal.

Passengers can use South Western Railway tickets at no extra cost on alternative routes including:

  • Great Western Railway services between Windsor Central, Slough and London Paddington

Travellers are being advised to check before setting off and allow additional time for journeys.

South Western Railway apologised for the disruption and said staff remain available at stations and help points for passengers needing assistance.
