SNEAK PEEK: PureGym Kingston shows off its brand-new equipment
Ahead of PureGym's opening tomorrow, Nub News got an exclusive sneak peek inside the former Argos store on Adam's Walk.
The new 24-hour gym is fitted with brand-new equipment, featuring all the machines you love to hate: Stairmaster anyone?
The front of the block is a cardio area fitted with a row of treadmills and rowing machines. An emergency first-aid kit and defibrillator is helpfully position at the front of the gym and can be accessed by anyone.
Responding to PureGym member feedback, there is a wide area for people to stretch or perform calisthenics in a space less intimidating than the weightlifting zones.
Ladies can rejoice with not just one, but FOUR hairdryers in the changing rooms. Forget leaving for work with wet hair again- PureGym have you covered. The showers look like they have been taken out of David Lloyd gym, never mind one that you pay £14.99 a month for.
Speaking of weights, you will have to lift your jaw off the floor after you see the row of squat racks and dumbbells. No more wasting time waiting until the equipment is free: with eight benches and four double-sided squat racks, you can just get on with your work out.
Gym bros and enthusiasts will get excited at the small things: like elastic bands, a sled track as well as the small barbells which have those annoying half weights like 12.5kg and 17.5kg.
Currently sporting six personal trainers (PTs), PureGym is looking for two more and is currently interviewing for the positions.
All from South-West London, the PTs already have a strong sense of banter and charm between them. It does not feel like they are the new kids on the block, rather they have been working the PureGym venue for a lifetime.
PTs and external instructors will conduct PureGym-branded classes, including spin classes, HIT, yoga, Zumba and more.
Walking into the studios feel like you've unlocked another level of Squid Game; but don't worry, your only competition is you here. Dark rooms are lit up by bright lights and motivational message like 'Go'.
These inspirational posts are peppered throughout the gym which create both a twee yet empowering optimism.
Of course, with any empty gym, there seems plenty of space to go round. As Kingston's second affordable 24-hour gym, it is hoped customers will be able to spread between the GymGroup and PureGym.
A slight anxiety is I only saw one lonely water fountain near the vending machines, which, if it is the only one, will likely see a longer queue than for the bench press.
PureGym Kingston is opening tomorrow at midday, with a ribbon cutting by a 'local hero' - a representative of Kingston Charitable Foundation.
