Kingston Council ask residents how they would like to celebrate the 1100th anniversary of the crowning of King Athelstan, the first King of England, in 2025.

Over a millennium ago, Athelstan was crowned the first King of England in the heart of Kingston, uniting the Kingdoms of Wessex and Mercia. This makes for a great opportunity to reflect on the people, places and stories that have made Kingston.

A statement from the council said: "As well as celebrating some of the great things already taking place, we want to hear your ideas on how we should celebrate Kingston's past, present and future.

"Today the borough is home to many different nationalities, communities and distinct neighbourhoods that bring an extraordinary richness to our heritage and cultural life; our sense of place, purpose and identity.

"Launching in Spring 2025, we want to hear your ideas to help us shape an exciting programme that reflects the borough's rich history and future aspirations."

The council wants to what stories, events or celebrations residents would like to see take place and how it can support your local communities, schools or neighbourhoods to get involved.

You can contact the council and contribute your ideas through the Kingston 2025 ideas boards displayed in Kcouncil libraries, Kingston Museum and Kingston History Centre and other venues across the borough.

You can also submit your ideas on the Kingston Heritage website or our Let's Talk Portal.
