Kingston Council is reviewing the polling stations within the borough to try and ensure the venues meet the needs of voters.
Changes to the polling stations to be used at all elections and referendums held within the borough have been proposed in the following wards:
- Coombe Vale Ward
- Green Lane and St James Ward
- Kingston Town Ward
- Old Malden Ward
Proposals suggest Coombe Vale Ward is to lose Coombe Girls School as a polling station, for it to be replaced with Christ Church New Malden (level access, onsite parking spaces) and Catholic Church of St. Pius X, The Triangle (level access).
For Green Lane and St James Ward* an additional temporary station will be erected on Kings College Sports Ground. It will include a temporary ramp, and street parking.
Changes to Kingston Town Ward include Kingston Methodist Church, which will have a temporary ramp erected to make it accessible.
Surbiton Town Sports Club is the recommended addition to Old Malden Ward; however, it only applies to 63 of the electorate in that estate.
The polling places proposed in all other wards remain unchanged.
The council is particularly looking for feedback from residents with a disability, and from individuals or organisations who have experience in making facilities accessible, particularly for people with disabilities.
Anyone commenting on the suitability of existing or proposed polling places is also invited to suggest alternative venues, where possible.
Comments on the proposals should be made in writing by 9 November via the online survey, emailing [email protected] or writing to Electoral Services, Guildhall, Kingston upon Thames, KT1 1EU until 9 November 2023.
The full proposals are available to read on our Let's Talk page, with hard copies provided at all libraries in the borough.
Proposals will be considered at the Corporate and Resources Committee on 30 November 2023.
* Parliamentary boundaries for this ward have changed as part of the Boundary Commission for England's 2023 review. The review has now concluded and cannot be changed by the polling district and polling places review
