Rail passengers travelling through south west London are facing major disruption this afternoon after a person was hit by a train between Clapham Junction and Putney.

The incident has led to all lines towards Barnes, Hounslow and Richmond being blocked, with services through the area cancelled, delayed or revised while emergency services remain on site.

According to South Western Railway, disruption is expected until around 4pm today (15 May), with knock-on delays affecting services across south west London.

While London-bound lines towards Clapham Junction and Waterloo have now reopened, Wandsworth Town station is not being served in either direction.

Services in south west London stations on the South Western Railway network are affected, with some trains cancelled and others diverted, leading to extended journey times.

Longer-distance services towards Reading and Windsor are also impacted, with diversions in place where possible.

Passengers are being urged to check before they travel and consider alternative routes, with rail replacement options and ticket acceptance in place across London Underground, London Overground and local bus services.

Alternative travel options include routes via the District, Jubilee, Bakerloo and Northern lines, as well as London Overground services between Richmond and Clapham Junction.

South Western Railway has apologised for the disruption and said teams are working with emergency services to manage the situation and restore services as soon as possible.

Passengers experiencing delays are advised to keep hold of their tickets, as they may be eligible for compensation under the operator's delay repay scheme.
