Plans to demolish a family home in Kingston to make way for six now houses have been thrown out by council planners.

Kingston Council has refused to grant planning permission for the development on Coombe Lane West, following four objections from neighbours.

Concerns around traffic, parking and the "excessive size" of the three-storey properties were all raised by locals.

The council found much of the application from Pembroke Planning acceptable, but said the scheme was not safe from a highways perspective.

"The provision of an acceptable standard of accommodation, no harm to the character and appearance of the area, a non-designated heritage asset, neighbouring occupiers and future occupants amenity are considered neutral matters," a council report said.

"Significant weight is given against the proposal in regards to the applicant's failure to fully demonstrate that the proposal would not prejudice highway safety, and significant weight is given against the proposal."

Previous plans to demolish the house to make way for four properties was granted.
