Norbiton clearing company, Just Clear, organised a fun-filled community coffee morning in partnership with Macmillan Cancer Support on Thursday 28 September 2023.
The event was to raise funds for Macmillan, whilst creating a sense of community pride for local people working together for a great social initiative.
Brendan O'Shea, CEO of Just Clear said: "We want to create meaningful relationships, and I am pleased that Just Clear was able to facilitate this at our site in Norbiton. I am hopeful that our interactions will enable us to work towards the common good and support great causes like Macmillan."
Just Clear also arranged for special gifts to acknowledge the immense work that the cancer nurses do at the Sir William Rous Unit at Kingston Hospital.
Lead Cancer Nurse, Lorna Smith and Manager, Archana Sood expressed their gratitude, saying: "We are humbled by the show of appreciation. Our cancer nurses, teams and volunteers are amazing and this warm gesture certainly makes us feel appreciated."
The coffee morning raised £715.89 and a further £9,360 in the sponsorship of gifts.
The day featured local residents, business owners, nurses and patients from Kingston Hospital, Kingston University and Kingston's elected officials.
The highlight was a visit from Coombe Day Nursery, where the children placed their messages and hand prints on a special message board, and took part in a coconut shy. All visitors were given tour of the recycling facility of Just Clear's Norbiton site, and presented with a special gift bag.
Deputy Mayor, Cllr Richard Thorpe remarked on how much he enjoyed speaking with the diverse Kingston community, he said: "This is a terrific event, I am so grateful for this invitation and delighted to support this cause."
Professor Choudhury from Kingston University said: "I was delighted to see a collection of rare computers on display; …and can see how our students can benefit from Just Clear's recycling and upcycling by sourcing household items in a sustainable and affordable way."
Lucy Hill, Relationship Manager – Macmillan commented: "On behalf of everyone at Macmillan, I want to say a massive thank you to everyone at Just Clear for hosting their Macmillan Coffee Morning.
"Macmillan Cancer Support relies almost entirely on donations – we simply couldn't help the growing number of people who need us, without the support and generosity of those who took part. You will help us continue to do whatever it takes to support people living with cancer, and reach our goal of being there for everyone, from day one of their diagnosis."
