A new Persian kebab restaurant opened in Surbiton earlier this month.

Nar Persian Kebab, which is located on Berrylands Road and has replaced the site of the former Kwun Sing Chinese takeaway, opened on Friday, 6 February.

The family-run restaurant has "always been a dream of the family", says its Manager Amir Kamali.

The Kamali family are Persian and based in Surbiton and Amir's dad has been a chef for 40 years working in different restaurants.

Amir, his father, and mother all work at the restaurant.

While opening a restaurant has always been the family's dream, Amir says that "now is the time" for the Kamali's to follow that dream.

Speaking to Nub News, Amir said: "I'm so excited and happy to finally be opening our own restaurant. This is a dream of the family, and I see a good future.

"I opened the restaurant to make my family happy, especially for my dad, but the customer is most important."

Amir, who is also an architecture and graduated in architectural degrees at Kingston and Westminster universities, designed the restaurant's interior himself.

While small, Nar boasts a cosy and pristine interior, perfect for a laid-back dining experience.

The Manager explained that the restaurant's name comes from his late grandad who pronounced the Persian word Anar, meaning pomegranate, as Nar.

Since its opening, Amir says that the restaurant has been "very busy", especially on its opening day and on Valentines Day when it decorated the room with heart shaped balloons.

Nar Persian Kebab's menu offers a variety of Persian style dishes ranging from hot and cold starters to mains including kebabs and burgers to sharers, seafood, and special dishes – and the prices are relatively cheap too.

Popping in earlier today, I tried the Soup Jow, which was absolutely delicious and the perfect hearty lunch dish for a cold day in February.

The restaurant is open from 12pm – 11pm seven days a week and is currently looking for more staff to join the team.
