Residential developer Barratt London marked its groundbreaking ceremony for its new project, Sterling Place, in New Malden on 17 January.

The event offered representatives from Merton Council the opportunity to hear more about the development and Barratt London's plans to enhance the wider area.

Joe Antoniazzi, Sales and Marketing Director for Barratt West London, said: "As we bring quality new homes to New Malden, Sterling Place will invest nearly £1.5m to the local area. In addition to financial contributions, the construction process itself will create jobs and training opportunities for local people. Across Barratt London, we have had the pleasure of employing apprentices and local labour.

"We look forward to working with the New Malden community over the coming years as the development progresses."

Barratt London also recently invited local school Sacred Heart Primary to Sterling Place development for a tour of the site.

Visiting the site, children viewed their artwork depicting the history of the restored site. Created over the summer, the designs are displayed on a hoarding surrounding the development and presented for the local community to enjoy.

Sterling Place will be built on a former print works and deliver 456 one, two, and three-bedroom apartments with a mix of private and affordable homes. As part of their brand-new development in New Malden, 169 affordable new homes will be launching in June 2024, with the site expected to complete in 2027.

In addition to much needed new homes, Barratt London will also offer a Car Club service to residents who wish to become members of the scheme, and these are allocated as "on street" parking for easy access to all. Each home will be entitled to three years of free Car Club membership from the date of occupation, where one car club replaces the carbon emissions of five privately owned vehicles.

Sterling Place has four bus routes on the doorstep and three railway stations within a 20-minute walk, including Raynes Park with services to London Waterloo in just 24 minutes. Additionally, the District and Northern lines can be accessed from nearby Wimbledon tube station.

New homes at Sterling Place currently start at £379,500 for a one-bedroom apartment. To find out more, visit www.barrattlondon.co.uk or call 0208 799 4150.
