Mayor of Kingston recognises life-saving action in final engagement

In her final engagement as Kingston's Mayor, Councillor Liz Green hosted Maria Ferreira, a member of the Guildhall security team, for tea in the Mayor's Parlour to recognise her life-saving actions in late 2024.
When a member of the public collapsed in the female toilets in Guildhall 2 last October, Maria, a qualified first aider, contacted emergency services and performed CPR, successfully reviving the individual, who had not been breathing for three minutes, before the ambulance arrived.
Both the police and ambulance service commended Maria for her heroic efforts.
In addition to her work at the Guildhall, Maria spends her lunch breaks selflessly collecting food from local supermarkets and delivering it to Anstee Bridge - a part of Achieving for Children that provides vital support for vulnerable young people aged 11 to 16 in Kingston and Richmond.
Cllr Green said: "During my time as Mayor, I have been lucky enough to meet so many fantastic people and Maria truly exemplifies the very best of Kingston.
"Her dedication to both her role and the community makes her a fitting guest for my final engagement as Mayor"
Cllr Green's Mayoral term ends at the Annual Council committee today (Tuesday, 13 May).
