Man detained after running across Heathrow taxiway in dramatic tarmac breach
A man was seen running across a taxiway at Heathrow Airport this week, in a dramatic scene captured on camera by aviation livestream channel Big Jet TV.
The footage shows the man near an Air Baltic aircraft before being chased by airport staff in high-visibility jackets. A security van is seen following him across the tarmac, before officers detain him. A police van later arrives to take the man away.
A Heathrow Airport spokesperson confirmed the incident was quickly dealt with and had no impact on flights.
"Working with partners, we quickly resolved an incident at the airport involving an individual who accessed the airfield taxiway," said the spokesperson.
"The individual has been removed from the airport. The airport continued to operate as normal and passengers travelled as planned."
The Metropolitan Police said they "played a small role in helping to detain the man before normal operations resumed."
The reason for the man's actions remains unclear at this time. Heathrow has not confirmed how he gained access to the restricted airfield area.
