Fundraising from community organisations in recent months has seen almost £20,000 raised for Teddington's lifeboat station.

The Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) runs primarily through donations with 92% of its total income raised through fundraising.

Teddington RNLI has launched its two inshore D-class lifeboats 102 times this year, its busiest year to date, and is currently the 20th busiest lifeboat station in the UK.

In recent months, wonderful efforts from local schools and organisations have played their part in helping Teddington RNLI to continue carrying out its life-saving work.

Back in September, Kingston-based paddle boarding group, SUP4Coach, raised £13,651 for Teddington RNLI by remarkably paddle boarding from Windsor to Kingston.

Commenting on the decision to choose Teddington's lifeboat station as their selected organisation for their fundraiser, Rachel Bambrough of SUP4Coach, said: " The SUP4 community raised the funds to help be a small part in saving lives with the RNLI.

"We also wanted to mark the memory of those that have lost their lives to the water. It was a challenge that helped not only raise funds but also to raise awareness of the safety needed whilst out paddle boarding. We're so thankful for the RNLI and the work that they do."

October saw Twickenham's Radnor House School raise an incredible £5,500 from a host of cake sales, with two members of the RNLI Teddington team arriving by boat to receive their fundraising cheque.

Teddington's riverside pub, The Anglers, is a next door neighbour and long-term supporter of the RNLI.

The pub's annual firework night is always a highlight in the Teddington calendar year and last week's display alongside money raised from local restaurant and winebar, Shambles, led to a further £700 being donated to RNLI Teddington.

Since the RNLI was founded in 1824, the lifeboat crews and lifeguards have saved at least 140,000 lives. Volunteers make up 95% of the charity, including 4,600 volunteer lifeboat crew members and 3,000 volunteer shore crew.
