Local Campaign group to host protests against Thames Water’s Teddington Direct River Abstraction project

A local campaign group, Save Our Lands and River (SOLAR) is hosting various events next month in protest against Thames Water's Teddington Direct River Abstraction (TDRA) project.
On Monday, 16 June, there will be a "special" at The Lensbury Club in Teddington, hosted by The Teddington Society.
The event, which will run from 7pm – 9pm, will "dive into the risks and hopes" of the River Thames.
At 10.45am Saturday, 28 June, there will be a community gathering with banners, voices, and a united Show of Hands for the media on Burnell Avenue.
This will be followed by a a Q&A and speeches at 2pm.

SOLAR said: "The River Thames is under threat and your voice matters.
"Thames Water's plan to pump treated sewage into the river at Teddington is moving forward. Land Interest Questionnaires are out, and consultations are coming. Now's the time to stand up and say NO."

A Thames Water spokesperson said: "Local communities have our absolute assurance that no untreated sewage will be transferred into the River Thames through our Teddington River Abstraction Project abstraction project. This nationally significant infrastructure project will help us to protect water supply for millions of Londoners, providing up to 75 million litres of water each day during period of drought.
"It will not negatively impact the river water quality and is no different to the normal water supply system. The project will work by putting treated recycled water from Mogden Sewage Treatment Works, through an additional stage of treatment, enabling us to replenish the Thames with clean, recycled water, protecting river levels and the local environment."
