Kingston's renowned Orpheus Choir looking for new members ahead of Christmas concert preparations

By Eli Haidari 16th Sep 2022

The Kingston Orpheus Choir has resumed rehearsals ahead of its Christmas concert taking place on the 3rd December and is on the lookout for new recruits.

The renowned choir was founded in 1944 and recently celebrated its 70th anniversary. Currently 30 members strong, rehearsals operate on a three-term basis (Spring, Summer and Winter) and concerts are also carried out three time per year (at the end of every term: usually in March/April, July and December).

Ahead of their Christmas-themed concert, featuring Bach's Magnificat, Ralph Vaughan Williams 'Fantasia on Christmas Carols' and Morten Lauridsen's beautiful 'O Magnum Mysterium', the choir is eager to seek out new talent, regardless of experience, and are keen to embrace the challenge of helping people strengthen their signing ability whilst nurturing a passion for performance.

Jon Fray, a tenor within the choir said: "It's wonderful to get together with like-minded people to learn new music and perform together. When we're practiced and sounding great it's a tremendous feeling to perform in front of an audience."

Rehearsals are held at St John's Church on Grove Lane from 8pm - 10pm.
