Police in Kingston are inviting women from the area to join them to speak about their concerns surrounding crime and women's safety in Kingston.

The event will take place April 25 13:00-16:00, starting outside Kingston Police Station.

The initiative involves female officers buddying up with women from their communities to goo out on patrol in open spaces.

Here they will be able to hear first-hand the women's experiences, concerns and reflections.

The aim of the walkabout is to start a conversation between the public and officers about their safety concerns and what police can do, working with partners to address them.

Currently one in three of the Mets local neighbourhood officers is female, the Met is hoping that initiatives such as these will encourage women to consider a career in policing.

The Met said: "We want more women to be the change they want to see."

Commander Helen Harper, head of Crime Prevention, Inclusion and Engagement for the Met, said: "We are really listening to what women are telling us about how safe they feel in London, and we are working hard to improve their safety. We are continuing to build a Met that better represents the communities it serves by recruiting more women police officers. Now, more than ever, we need women who have a passion for helping others to join the Met to help us continue to always be better.

The event will start outside Kingston Police Station, 5-7 High Street, Kingston upon Thames, KT1 1LB.
