Kingston tributes to the Queen

Tributes are being paid to Her Majesty from across the borough for her 70 years of service. Buckingham Palace announced her passing yesterday evening.

The statement said: "The Queen died peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon.

"The King and The Queen Consort will remain at Balmoral this evening and will return to London tomorrow."

During the afternoon members of her close family, including her grandson William, Duke of Cambridge; sons Andrew, Duke of York and Edward, Earl of Wessex (and his wife Countess Sophie), arrived at the castle in Aberdeenshire.

The four travelled together in a vehicle driven by William. Her grandson, Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex, was reported to be travelling to Balmoral alone. Prince Charles and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, together with Princess Anne, the Princess Royal, were already at Balmoral.

Ed Davey, Lib-Dem leader and Kingston and Surbiton MP, said:

"'We mourn the loss of a great monarch who served our country faithfully all her life.

'"The Queen was an ever-fixed mark in our lives. She represented duty and courage, warmth and compassion.

"My thoughts and prayers are with the Royal Family, and everyone whose life she touched."

Police South West Commander, Elisabeth Chapple, said:

"I am so very proud to have served our Queen. May she rest in peace with her beloved husband after her lifetime of devotion to duty, country, and us."

The Rose Theatre said:

"We are deeply saddened by the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Rose Theatre sends its deepest condolences to the royal family."

Kingston First said:

"It is with great sadness Kingston First has received news of the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. throughout her reign, the Queen has demonstrated an extraordinary sense of public duty and commitment to her nation.

"On behalf of Kingston First we offer our deepest condolences to the Royal Family."

Cllr Yogan Yoganathan, Mayor of the Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames, said:

"As a Royal Borough, Kingston upon Thames has always had a strong connection to the Queen and the Royal Family, and we feel her loss deeply.

"On behalf of both the local authority and the people of Kingston upon Thames, I express great sadness at her passing and offer our sincere condolences to the royal family for their loss."

The Kingston Academy said:

"It is with great sadness that we have learned of the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. We extend our condolences to the Royal Family. This morning, pupils engaged in reflections during registration time. On Monday, Mrs Venter will lead tributes in Whole School assembly."

Kingston University's Vice-Chancellor, Professor Steven Spier said:

"It is with deep sadness that we have learned of the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and we extend our sincere and heartfelt condolences to the Royal Family.

"As a University situated within a Royal Borough, the loss of our Monarch is particularly poignant. Many of our students, staff and alumni will have their own cherished memories of her reign and will remember the impact she has made around the world since ascending the throne in 1952. I myself was pleased to meet Her Majesty and the Duke of Edinburgh at a reception a few years ago at Canada House.

"On behalf of our students, staff and alumni, I would like to pay tribute to her outstanding devotion and service to the people of the United Kingdom, the Realms and the Commonwealth over the past 70 years.The high esteem in which she was held across our community and lasting legacy of her enduring commitment to public service were clearly reflected during the recent Platinum Jubilee celebrations, which saw her become the first British Monarch to reach such an historic milestone."

Kingstonian FC said:

"Kingstonian Football Club is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Queen Elizabeth II. We join those mourning in the UK and across the world. We would like to send our condolences to the Royal Family and everyone affected by this very sad news."

The Kingston Chamber of Commerce said:

I"t's with profound sorrow to learn the passing of Her Majesty the Queen. Her values, humility, guidance and gentle wisdom will stay with many of us. KINGSTON CHAMBER OF COMMERCE joins our community and the world in mourning and sends deepest condolences to the Royal Family."

London Ambulance Service

"We are deeply saddened to hear that Her Majesty the Queen has passed away.

We join the rest of the country and people across the world in sending our condolences to the Royal Family at this time of immense and profound grief for our nation."

London Fire Brigade

"London Fire Brigade joins the nation to mourn the sad passing of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II. Our thoughts are with the Royal Family at this difficult time."

The Kingston Carer's Network said:

"All at Kingston Carers' Network are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Our thoughts and condolences are with the Royal Family at this difficult time. God save the King."
