A Kingston school has praised the resilience of its students as they celebrate an outstanding set of A-Level results today (10 August) despite the disruption to learning caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Kingston Grammar School (KGS) said its pupils "deserve the highest praise," for their impressive achievements over 18 months of mostly online learning and uncertainty over exams.

33 students at the independent school's sixth-form gained at least 3A*s in their studies, and of these 9 achieved 4A*s.

6 KGS students will be going to Oxbridge including Katie Hackworth, Ben Little (Cambridge) Sean Graham, Panu Hietanen, Hannah Orrell and Sofie Procter (Oxford).

Swimmer Eddie Hunt will be studying at Fairfield University in the US this autumn, having won a prestigious scholarship in his sport to study Liberal Arts.

And 5 KGS sixth-formers have confirmed places at UK medical schools, despite the increased competition for places this year and lack of opportunities for gaining relevant work experience.

But the school on London Road said that all of its students' A-Level results are worthy of celebration.

In an article on its website the school wrote: "Perhaps most important of all is the fact that the vast majority of our students are going on to study the subjects that most interest and inspire them, at their first-choice university.

"That is a most fitting testament to their hard work, and richly deserved."

KGS Head Master Stephen Lehec added: "The individual exam successes, gained in the most trying of circumstances, of this wonderful group of students is testament to their dedication and focus.

"Having achieved excellent academic results after 18 months of so much upheaval and uncertainty is particularly impressive and I am delighted for them all.

"What's more, they should all be proud of the contribution they have made to the life of Kingston Grammar School and the wider community.

"I look forward to watching them step out into the world to take the next step in their education, and indeed welcoming them back to us as Old Kingstonians soon."
