Kingston school achieves highest GCSE results to date

The Kingston Academy (TKA) announced that its students are celebrating another "exceptional" set of GCSE results, which were released on Thursday, 20 August.
Thursday's results mark the school achieving its strongest results to date and once again demonstrating that it is among the highest-performing schools in the country.
Speaking about the results, TKA's Associate Head Teacher, Tom Brook, said: "Year 11 students have achieved a remarkable set of outcomes across the full range of subjects."
The school's provisional Attainment 8 score rose to 6.41, up from 6.22 last year.
Brook added: "Put simply, the average grade achieved by TKA students across their key GCSE subjects was comfortably above a Grade 6, representing another record-breaking year for the school".
The proportion of the very highest grades was particularly impressive. More than half (51%) of all GCSE grades awarded were at Grade 7 or above, equivalent to the former A/A* grades.
More than a third (36 per cent) were at Grade 8 or above, while almost one in five of all grades were Grade 9, the highest grade available.
Twelve students achieved at least eight Grade 9s across their subjects. £Results in the core subjects were equally strong," Brook said.
92 per cent of students achieved Grade 4 or above in both English and Mathematics (the highest proportion in TKA's history) while 83 per cent achieved Grade 5 or above in both subjects, an increase from 78 per cent last year.
Across all subjects, 91 per cent of grades were Grade 4 or higher. These outcomes have opened up an exciting range of opportunities for TKA students.
Buoyant numbers of students will now continue their education at The Kingston Academy Sixth Form, building on their GCSE success through ambitious A Level programmes.
Other students have secured places at a range of external sixth forms, colleges and specialist institutions, reflecting the breadth of pathways available to the cohort and the strength of their individual achievements. Students from disadvantaged backgrounds also achieved excellent results, recording their highest-ever attainment outcomes and further narrowing the gap with the cohort as a whole.
Brook said: "This reflects TKA's continued commitment to ensuring that every student, irrespective of background, has the opportunity to achieve highly."
There were also "outstanding" performances across the curriculum, according to Brook.
English Literature, Mathematics, the separate Sciences, Business Studies, Religious Studies and Sociology all produced results that placed their progress measures within the top five per cent of schools nationally, alongside exceptionally strong overall attainment.
Brook said: "These record-breaking results are the product of the ambition and hard work of TKA's students, supported by the expertise and commitment of staff and the encouragement of families throughout their time at the school.
"Taken as a whole, the results represent another significant milestone for The Kingston Academy.
"They demonstrate exceptional attainment across the curriculum, outstanding outcomes at the highest grades and, most importantly, provide students with the qualifications and opportunities to take their next steps with confidence."
The Kingston Academy said it "warmly congratulates every member of the Class of 2026 on their achievements and looks forward to seeing what they accomplish next".
