There was also A-Level success across the borough, with Kingston Grammar sending a student to America on a sports scholarship.

90% of A-Level entries at Tiffin Boys school were marked A-A* and 100% of Surbiton High pupils got into their first-choice university.

There was also success atGrey Court school in Ham which is sending 3 students to Oxbridge and 4 to top medical schools.

Across the UK, grades saw record highs leading some to question the marking methods in the two years of lockdown assessments.

But many teachers praised the characters of their students and stated their achievements went beyond just grades.

Ms Wilson, Deputy Headteacher at Chessington School said: "The work ethic of our students during this challenging 18 months has been phenomenal - I continue to be so incredibly proud of them all! Well done Class of 2021!"

Stephen Lehec, Headteacher at Kingston Grammar School, praised students for their "fortitude and patience" as well as their academic success.

"In difficult circumstances, and in times of such ongoing uncertainty - especially for young people - our students have remained focussed, balanced and calm," he added.

And Richmond Council paid tribute to all pupils across Kingston upon Thames.

Councillor Diane White,Portfolio Holder for Children's Services including Education at Kingston Council, said: "I would like to say very well done to all students who are receiving their results this week.

"After an incredibly difficult year with major disruption to learning, you should be so proud of your hard work and determination.

"I know that students have needed to adapt to further lockdowns, remote learning and significant changes to their school day.

"This has made their achievements even more remarkable.

"As our young people move onto their next chapter, whether that's in further education, training, or stepping into the world of work - I wish them every success.

"I would also like to thank our teachers, school staff, support services and networks, families and friends for supporting our young people through this challenging time."

The Council added: "If you are disappointed with your results, do not feel alone.

"Please speak to your school for support and information about other opportunities, or speak to someone you trust."

In addition, from 16th - 31st August, any young person who has received their results and is seeking careers advice can call the Summer Support Careers Advice Helpline on 07540156905 or 07864612857.
