Kingston residents are being encouraged to explore new career opportunities in the fast-growing green economy at the Kingston Green Skills & Careers Fair, taking place on Tuesday 17 February at the Main Guildhall.

The free event, running from 11am to 3pm in the main Guildhall on High Street, will bring together local employers, training providers and careers organisations to showcase the wide range of roles emerging across green and environmental sectors.

From renewable energy and sustainable construction to low-carbon transport and designing products using recycled materials, attendees will have the chance to speak directly with employers about current vacancies and future career pathways.

Organisations offering employability support, career coaching and access to green skills training courses will also be on hand.

The vent comes as new analysis from the Institute for Employment Studies suggests that up to 65,000 jobs could be created in the green economy across South London by 2050.

Councillor Ian Manders, Portfolio Holder for Climate Action, Biodiversity and Planning Policy, said the fair aims to support residents at all stages of their working lives.

"Whether you are looking for work, considering a change of career, or are a student weighing up your options, this event could help you find a job that can make a real difference to the environment and climate change," he said.

"Supporting people is at the heart of what councils do, and by helping residents into the ever-growing green jobs market, we're also helping to create a greener future for everyone."

The Green Skills & Careers Fair forms part of a wider programme of council activity supporting Kingston's transition to a green economy.

This work has helped attract £3 million of investment into the borough while supporting the creation of new jobs.

During 2025, the council engaged with 307 businesses on green initiatives and hosted a range of green economy events attended by more than 800 people.

The year also saw the Kingston Green Business Community (KGBC) continue to grow, with its 150 member businesses actively working to reduce their environmental impact while remaining commercially successful.

Attendance is free for the Kingston Green Skills & Careers Fair, but spaces must be booked in advance via Eventbrite.
