A repair café is set to land in Kingston next month in an exciting development which will aim to promote repair as an alternative to tossing items out.

Against the background of rising living costs and a backlash against the throwaway society, people are looking to give their clothes and other items a longer life.

Repair Café Kingston is being organised by Transition Town Kingston, a local community-led organisation that promotes sustainable living within the borough.

Starting in February, the café will take place on the first Saturday morning of every month in Kingston Library from 10.30am - 1.30pm, where residents can bring their broken items to fix on the spot with the help of voluntary repairers. As a social event, tea/coffee and cake will be available for volunteers and visitors.

Neighbouring boroughs have experienced huge success with similar initiatives with the regular Twickenham Repair Café attracting hundreds of locals in recent months to fix items from bikes to tech and toys by its skilled volunteers.

The Kingston Repair Café is on the lookout for talented volunteers to join their team as they prepare for next month's launch and are particularly keen to hear from those who enjoy fixing clothing, musical instruments, electrical appliances, furniture/wooden objects and china.
