Kingston International Film Festival to celebrate five years of film, community, and creative impact
By Tilly O'Brien 16th Feb 2026
Kingston International Film Festival (KIFF) is set to celebrate its fifth anniversary, marking a major milestone not just for the festival itself, but for the vibrant creative community that has supported and shaped it since day one.
While KIFF is best known for its annual celebration of independent film and documentary, the festival's work extends far beyond a single 3-day event.
Throughout the year, the KIFF team dedicates its time, energy and expertise to supporting arts, education and culture across Kingston, working closely with a wide range of local organisations — often on a voluntary basis — to help creativity thrive at a grassroots level.
From ongoing partnerships with Kingston College and Kingston University, to collaborative projects with Creative Youth, Kingston Heritage, and numerous other local cultural organisations, KIFF plays an active role in nurturing emerging talent, championing local stories and strengthening Kingston's creative ecosystem.
This coming year, KIFF is expanding its "Routes into The Industry" workshops for college and university students as well as our work experience programme. It currently has three Film students on a two-month work experience programme.
"Kingston has always been at the heart of what we do," said Jelena, Festival Director.
"This festival exists because of the community around it — the filmmakers, students, partners, volunteers and audiences who believe in the power of film and the arts to bring people together. Reaching our fifth year feels like the perfect moment to pause, reflect and say thank you."
Since its launch, Kingston International Film Festival has showcased an inspiring range of independent films and documentaries from around the world, while remaining deeply rooted in its local setting.
The festival has become a platform not only for cinematic excellence, but for connection, conversation and community pride — made possible by the audiences who return year after year.
As KIFF prepares to celebrate its fifth edition, the team is looking forward to honouring the films, filmmakers and supporters who have helped build the festival into what it is today, while continuing its commitment to championing creativity in Kingston all year round.
David Cunningham, Festival Director, said: "It is important to recognise the outstanding support we have received from The Royal Borough of Kingston since the inception of the festival and we are most grateful for their continued friendship and support."
The fifth Kingston International Film Festival promises to bigger and better as it grows from strength to strength.
Stephen Cranny, Programming Director added: "We have passed our deadline for submissions with the number of feature films submitted trebling, the quality of which is extremely impressive."
KIFF's upcoming festival dates are 5 - 7 June 2026.
