Former Eastenders actor John Altman, known for his memorable role as 'Nasty' Nick Cotton on the TV soap, will be performing in Hampton Wick tomorrow (Saturday 18 September) with a local band.

Altman, who played George Harrison in a Beatles biopic before taking on the recurring Eastenders role, will take the stage at the town's village fete to perform some original works and classic 60s hits.

The 69-year-old formerly fronted the Heavy Metal Kids glam-rock band but left in 2011 to pursue other projects.

At the fete tomorrow he will be backed by local band The Dukes of Rock which counts Charlie of the famed Charlie Chandler's Guitar Experience as a member.

The TV star first moved to Kingston in 1987 where he fell love with Surrey.

He later moved to Hampton Wick, located just over the bridge in the post-code of Kingston upon Thames.

Altman told Surrey Life magazine the town is the "perfect position" for him.

"I love running and I've got three parks near me, including Richmond and Bushy," he said.

"Then there is the river as well. I couldn't want for more."

During the 2009 interview he also criticised Kingston town centre for its developments.

"It was a beautiful old fishing village - now it looks more like a part of Birmingham or Reading," he said.

"They should have done more in conserving its history in the same way as they did when they developed Richmond."

He went on to praise the beautiful nature and pubs in the area but added: "The biggest issue is definitely housing developments. We can't get away from them.

"There is one up the road from me and it clears the view of Bushy Park for many houses - all thanks to greedy developers.

"Lego looks more attractive than most of what they put up. I would like to know what goes on in the minds of town planners."
