Kingston Council calls for digital map to celebrate best places in the borough

By The Editor 17th Mar 2021

Over the next year, Kingston Heritage Service will be searching for the top '100 Histories' that best represent the heritage of the borough.

Residents and people connected to Kingston are invited to submit their histories on a new interactive digital map. Next year, the top stories will be shared and used to create activities, events, and improve the offer produced by the Heritage service. Any submissions not already featured in the collections at Kingston Museum and Kingston History Centre will be reviewed for future inclusion.

Councillor Rebekah Moll, Portfolio Holder for Culture at Kingston Council, said: "We want to encourage everyone to think of heritage as broadly as possible, plot the stories, places, objects, events and people they want to remember, as well as share pieces of heritage that others may not be aware of. We hope that 'Our 100 Histories' will help all residents feel represented and excited about the borough's diverse heritage, as well as the collections at Kingston Museum and Kingston History Centre."

Businesses and organisations in Kingston are also invited to get involved by adding what they think should be celebrated as part of the borough's heritage.
