This week representatives from Coombe Hill Manor will be donning their glad rags and getting spruced up for a night out at the 23rd National Care Awards ceremony being held at The London Metropole Hotel on Friday 19 November.

The Kingston care home and Nub News sponsor is a finalist in both the Care Team of the Year and Dignity & Respect Care Home of the Year categories.

The awards are organised by leading social care publication Caring Times Magazine and celebrate the very best people in the long-term care sector, highlighting excellence and rewarding those who work tirelessly to provide consistently outstanding care.

Jane Knight from Coombe Hill Manor explained how the home entered the awards and what each category recognises.

She said: "Earlier in the year, submissions were made for two awards categories the first being Care Team of the Year and the criteria was that this award would be made to a staff team who have developed and maintained an outstanding standard of care and team ethos within any care setting.

"We had to explain why this team would be a worthy winner of the award including the development of any innovative projects to improve the quality of life for the residents.

"We also had to explain how the team had the skills, knowledge, and enthusiasm to empower and enable residents regain or maintain a level of independence and meaningful lives.

"To support this entry we had to include up to five testimonials from management, residents and relatives.

"Dignity and Respect in Care Awards was the second category entered and the criteria was that the award would be made to an exceptional care home which could convincingly demonstrate that it has put dignity and respect for its residents and staff at the very heart of all it does and that this emphasis has resulted in tangible benefits for residents, relatives and staff alike.

"We gave a full description of how the care home provides an environment for residents where they are treated with dignity and respect.

"We explained how you support the people who live in our home to make choices about the way they live and the support they receive.

"Examples were given of independence, lifestyle opportunities, cultural and religious beliefs, privacy, eating and nutrition care, pain management and personal hygiene.

"Again we had to provide up to five testimonials to support the application."

This is not the first time the home run by Signature Senior Living and rated 'Outstanding' by the Care Quality Commission has been nominated for a national award.

In 2019, Coombe's Dementia Manager Justyna Johnson was one of 5 finalists in the National Dementia Care Awards.

That year, the home was also awarded Gold Standards Framework Beacon Status, the highest possible accolade for its quality of End of Life care.
